South Carolina secedes, soon followed by Mississippi, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas. These states formed the Confederate States of America, led by Jefferson Davis. Later on Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and North Carolina join the Confederacy, making a total of 11 states. -

New Union Commander
General Ulysses S. Grant is named the chief commander of the Union forces. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
On August 28-30, 1862, another Battle of Bull Run took place although in a much larger scale with more damage done. The battle was once again a Confederate victory. -
The War Ends
General Robert E. Lee surrenders to General Ulysses S. Grant at Appamottox, putting an end to the Civil War with a Union victory.
