    The first battle of the Civil War. For the Union, an important leader was Major Robert Anderson, and for the Confederacy, a big leader was General PGT Beauregard. The Union surrendered the Fort to the Confederacy, important battle because it started the Civil War.
  • Bull Run

    This was the first real battle of the Civil War. For the Union, General Irivn McDowell was a leader. For the Confederacy, two important leaders were Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson, and Gen. Beauregard. The Confederacy won. It was important because both sides' views on the war changed.

    The second major battle of the Civil War. For the Union, Gen. US Grant and Tecumseh Sherman were major. For the Confederacy, Gen. Beauregard was important. The Union won, the battle was important because it was vital for the Union to gain control of the Mississippi River and this helped them.

    From the Union, Captain David Farragur was very important. This battle completed the Union's control of the Mississippi River. The Union won.

    For the Union, General Joseph Hooker was their best general, for the South, General Robert Lee and Stonewall Jackson were vital to the South's win. This battle changed the war because the South ruined the Union's plan of attacking Richmond.

    For this battle, there was a rivalry between the Union's McClellan and the Confederacy's General Lee. Neither side won this battle. It was important because it caused the Emancipation Proclomation to be formed and the Union prevented Lee to move the war into Northern land.

    For the Union, General Ambrose Burnside was very important and for the Confederacy, General Robert E. Lee was possibly the best general. This battle was very important because the South won again!

    For the North, General Meade led the Union to victory. The Confederate Generals Lee and Pickett just weren't enough to beat the Union. This battle ended the South's hopes of receiving help from Britain and France.

    The Union General Ulysses S. Grant led the Union to victory in this ransack. Everyone in the Confederacy was fighting to defend Vicksburg. This Siege was a major turning point for the war because the Confederacy split in two and lost control of the Southern Mississippi River.

    The Union General U.S. Grant moved toward Richmond to fight. Many people died of cold, brushfires, and disease. This started the 6 bloodiest weeks of the war. There were 50,000 Union deaths in 30 days.
  • Farragut at Mobile Bay

    Farragut at Mobile Bay
    On August 5, 1864, highest-ranking Union officer David Farragut led 18 ships into Mobile Bay in Alabama. The Confederates counter-attacked with torpedoes, but the invasion of Mobile Bay worked and now the Union had complete control of the Mississippi River because they took the last Southern port.

    Sherman and his men started marching toward the sea. Along the way, they burned cities and farmlands along Atlanta and the Georgia Coast. Important because thousands of slaves were free.
  • Surrender at Appomattox

    Surrender at Appomattox
    After the Fall of Richmond, Lee and Jefferson Davis retreated. But Lee continued to fight, but was surrounded and the Union's U.S. Grant accepted Lee's surrender. In the town Appomattox Court House, Grant and Lee discussed ending the war. On April 9, 1865, the Civil War was over.
