Huey trial was one very political. Before even hearing the defense many people jumped to the conclusions that Huey Newton had killed a police officer in cold blood. Others thought the trail was just a way to stop the BPP all together. He was charged with murdering Officer Frey who stoped Huey at a stop, assaulting officer Heanes who arrived on the scene, and kidnapping a man for his car.
    Verdict; Guilty of voluntary manslaughter.

The BPP also helped over 10,000 people with health and education initiatives. Another BIG thing they helped many African Americans is rediscovering their black identities, and also helped disadvantages African Americans get a fair shake in America.
  • Event 8: Modern Problems

    Event 8: Modern Problems
Even thought the black panther movment itself does not exist this time around there are groups still fighting for the same thing they wanted. Like the Black Lives Matter movement and its call to end POLICE BRUTALITY! They harbor some qualities of the BPP but they are not as militarized as the BPP was back then. They are a more nonviolent group that is speaking out against racism. they are also calling for an end of systematic racism aimed at blacks, and a revaluation of the justice system.
