  • The creation of the party

    At Meritt college, Bobby Seale and Huey Newton decide to create a self-defense party that advocated for black nationalism, socialism.

  • The 10-point programme

    14 days after the creation of the party, Bobby and Huey created the 10-point program. A program that acted as a set of rules and guidelines for members of the party.

  • First act

    The first act of the party was to send out armed patrols in black communities to keep an eye out for police brutality amongst other things

  • The first HQ

    January 1st 1967, the black panthers started recruiting and opened up a headquarters. This Headquarters was used to produce the black panther party community news service.

  • Panthers invade the capital

    May 2 1967 an anti gun bill that the panthers were in opposition to was being considered at the capitol.

  • Huey is arrested

    Huey Newton is arrested for the murder of officer john Frey. Which results in starting the "free huey" movement.

  • Change of goals

    at this point the party decided to switch focus towards political action

  • First community program

    This is when the BPP created its first free breakfast program. The party would later go on to create many more programs like ones for education and health clinics.

  • The return of newton

    By 1977 huey finally returned to Oakland

  • end of the party

    After a raid on the home of fred hampton, the Bpp was officially dissolved.

  • The death of Huey

    Huey P. Newton was gunned down in the street
