    Started May 18, - July 4 Six week siege. It was supported by a fleet of inronclads, which were heavily armored in iron. Town surrenedered, the confedaracy was split in two.

    It was a turning point in the war. Union suffered heavy losses and retreated on july 4th. Lee became on defense for the rest of the war after this battle. This Battle had the largest number of casualties in the American Civil War.

    Union wanted to invade northeastern Texas using this river. The Confederate forces led by Richard Taylor forced Banks to retreat.
  • Lee's Surrender

    Ended Civil War. General Grant of Union defeaed General Lee with outnumberd forces. But both suffered considerably.
  • Battle of Palmito Ranch

    General E. Kirby Smith urged his troops to keep fighting the Union troops. Smith's trops later faught at Brownsville, and won the battle. But, the war was lost.
