    Arrived from 432 AD onwards. For a long time it was thought they too were invaders who pushed out the Romano-British Celts to Wales and Scotland. However, there is little evidence of any battles; it may have been a peaceful take over. Northumbria- in which the Northern dialects originated Mercia- in what we now know as the Midlands Anglia- in the East, Angle-land from which the name comes Wessex- in the South and West
