  • Fort Sumter

    South Carolina- On April 12 1861 Confederates shot the first shots of the American Civil War in Fort Sumter. At the time the Union had control of Fort Sumter. But the problem was that hey were in Confederate hands. they kept firing until 2:30am on April 13. Major Anderson surrendered Fort Sumter. Only one Union soilder was killed this was the begging of the Civil War. This was a Confederate victory.
  • Bull Run #1

    This was the first battle of many battles in Northern Virginia. The Union General at the time was General McDowell. Fighting lasted all day and the Confederates were driven back to Henry Hill. They were very Disorganized and they wanted to retreat. A couple of their higher generals were killed. Thomas Jackson said to not retreat and stand here and fight. This is where he got the name "Stonewall" Jackson. The Conederates ended up killing the poorly trained Union soliders to a Confederate victory
  • Fort Henry

    Fort Henry was a Confederate fort on the Tennessee River with many guns. The U.S. general in the wesstern theatre Ulysses S. Grant set his divisons in two locations; one to prevent a Confederate escape, and one to get the high ground to isure the fall of fort. The plann worked out and the rest of the Confederate soilders headed toward Fort Donelson. The Union victory lead up to the Tennessee River toopened up shipping all the way to Alabama. This would help with Union material
  • Fort Donelson

    Fort Donelson was only ten miles away from Fort Henry. This was a Confederate fort. Again, General Ulysses S. Grant advanced foward. he and his birgade made 12,000 men retreat and it was a big win for him. This caused the Union to control many waterways and have Kentucky be in the Union. Grant was named captain of the Western theatre.
  • Shiloh "The Hornets Nest"

    After two Confederate defeats in Tennessee, they neede to find a victory. Near Pittsburg Landing, the rebels found out that there were Union troops their waiting for a divison in Ohio. In the morning of April 6, the CSA attacked the Union, and it was a good one. They fought on sunken road(Hornets Nest). The Confederates hadmany attacks fail but they still won the day. The next day the Ohio divison arrived and caught the rebels of guard. They outnumbered them 40,000 to 30,000 Union won the battle
  • Antietam

    Single bloodest battle in Civil War. Lee was trying to ivade Union soil but the two armies met in Maryland. Attacks and counterattacks were all day. Fighting stretched from behind Dunker Church. Late in the day there was a ton of action on Antietam creek. A.P. Hills divison arrived from Harpers Ferry to help. His divison helped save the CSA troops McCellen only sent 25% of the Union army in that battle which made them suffer. There was no clear winner on the single bloodest battle.
  • Fredericksburg

    Burnside was the leader of the Union when this battle happened. he sent corps to occupy vicinity of Falmouth near Fredericksburg. Dec 11, Union army put fire on five bridges then they eventually advanced. Dec 13, Burnside attemped assualts on Marye's Heights and Prospect Hill; it resulted casualities. Meades divison penitrated Jacksons line but they were penitrated by a counterattack. Two days later they Union lost big and Burnside was replaced in January 1863 for the bad decison of attacking.
  • Chancellorsviile

    This was considerd Lee's best win in the war. On the morning of May 2, Lt. Gen. T.J. Jackson directed his corps acrross the Unions left flank. It was reported "hanging in the air." Fighting went back and forth all day. Near 5pm, Jacksons line crushed the Federal forces and the CSA kept pushing foward. In the night the CSA was disorganized and "Stonewall" Jackson was wounded by his own men. Staurt took over the divison and the next three days crushed the Union forces.
  • Gettysburg

    Lee was planning to invade the North on their own soil in Harrisburg. But they happened to meet at Getttysburg and the Union held them the first day and reached the highground.General Ewell made a big mistake by not taking the highground. On the second day General Chamberlin held of the CSA's six attacks and they held the flank and Union position. On the third day Lee wanted to end the Union hopes by making the largest attack in the civil war. General Pickett lead it and they failed, Union won.
  • Vicksburg

    In May and June of 1863, General Ulysses s. Grant went into the city of Vicksburg and entrapped a confederate army under Lt. John Pemberton. On July 4, Vicksburg sieged. This was one of the most brilliant military campaigns of the war. This Union win split the CSA in half. Ulysses Grant was named General in-chief of the Union armies.
  • Fort Wagner

    After the Union suffered major casualities on July 11, 1863 the 54th Massachusetts was to set out a surprise attack. They lasted all day and at night, General Robert shaw sent his black regiment to the top of the Fort. Leading the attcack Shaw got shot twice up the steep hill and died. Over half of the regiment died after this death by hand to hand commbat but the 54th inspired blacks to fight in the Union. This was a CSA victory,on July 18 1863.
  • The Wilderness

    It was a battle in the the woods. Grants army versus Longstreet. On the morning of May 5, 1864 the Union attacked Ewells Corps on the Orange Turnpike, while A.P. Hills Corps were encountering Getty's corps and Hancocks. Fighting was fierce. On May 6 Hancock attacked Hills corps which caused them to fall back in confusion.Longstreet saved the right flank. Later Longstreet was wounded. On May 7 the Union advanced and won the Battle of The Wilderness.
  • Cold Harbor

    On June 1 1864, the Unions 6 and 18 Corps reached Cold Harbor and assalted the CSA's works. By June 2, both armies were o the field. It lasted till June 15 when most of the Union Corps wereat the battlefield. It stretched for 7 miles long. Grant, abanding the well-defended approaches to Richmond, he shifted his army towards Petersburg.
  • Appomattox Courthouse

    on April 9, 1865, the remanents from John Broun Gordon's Corps and Lee's calvery formed a line of battle at the courthouse. Lee wanted to have one more chance at this war. Lee's army advanced but the Union army penitrated through them and the CSA surrendered on all three sides. Lee surrendered to Grant and the final engagment was done. On April 9,1865 the CSA was demolished and became the United States of America again. The union won the war.
