    This book was published anonymously during the beginning of the American Revolution and became an immediate sensation. It changed the colonist perspective of Britain.

    Declaration of Independence adopted

    The Declaration of Independence is adopted by the second continental congress meeting in Pennsylvania. It states people have the right of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness, and that all men are created equal.

    Cornwallis surrendered to George Washington as French and American forces trapped the British at Yorktown. The British surrender at the Battle of Yorktown ended the American Revolutionary War.

    The Treaty of Paris ended the French and Indian 7 year war. In the treaty, the terms were that the French give up all the territories in Mainland North America. more information

    The Great Compromise meant that there would be two legislative bodies in congress. In the lower house, proportional representation was granted. In the upper house, they were granted equal representation by the states. Senators are chosen by state legislatures.

    The Federalist agreed that a strong government was needed to lead a new nation and claimed they would add a Bill of Rights to the constitution. In order for it to be in effect, nine states had to ratify the constitution to enable a new government to form, and for the Constitution to be law.

    The Bill of Right is the first 10 Amendments to the constitution. This granted freedom of speech, press and religion, etc. It gives civil rights and liberties to the individual.
