    Election of 1860 By the time that the election of 1860 came around, the country was heavily divided on their thoughts about slavery. Abraham Lincoln won the elction of 1860 for the Republican party. Because of the election of Abraham Lincoln, many states started to secede.

    History.com Jefferson Davis elected as Confederate States President After the southern states seceded, delegates from each state met together in Montgomery, Alabama. The delegates formed the Confederate States of America. The delegates created their own Constitution and elected Jefferson Davis to the president of their new "nation."

Once the forst surrendered, Abraham Lincoln said that the southern states that seceded from the Union were in rebellion. No soldiers were actually killed during this battle.

    Battle of Bull Run This was the major battle between the Union and the Confederacy. The battle took place in Virginia and the confederate soldiers won the battle with General Thomas Jackson. This ruined the Union's chances of ending the war quickly.

    Ulysses S. GRANT was in charge of the Union in the West, where they were mainly focused on gaining control of the Mississippi River. Grant led his troops into Tennessee and was confronted by the confederates who caught him by surprise and pushed the union back. More Union soldiers came and Grant counterattacked the confederates and forced them to retreat. This was the start of the Confederate's decline.

    Battle of Vicksburg The only port city that stood in the way of David Farragut, the naval officer for the Union, was Vicksburg, Mississippi. General Ulysses S. Grant from the Union started to siege the city on May 22 with almost 220 artillery pieces. The Confederates surrendered on July 4 of 1863.

    Seven Days' BattleThe two generals in this battle were General George B. McClellan and General Robert E. Lee. On June 26, 1862 Lee attacked McClellan to start teh seven days' battle. McClellan led the Union army in this battle and was forced to retreat after repeated blows from the Confederacy Army.

    Second Battle of Bull Run General Pope was waiting for General McClellan from the Confederate army to attack, but General Lee attacked first and caught the Union army off guard. Pope's army wasn't ready and fell to teh Confederate army in the Secodn Battle of Bull Run.

    Battle of AnitietamLee's forces now crossed into Maryland hoping for a Confederate victory on the Union's homeland. Both armies met alomg the Antietnam Creek in Maryland for the bloodiest single-day battle of not only the war, but in American history. General Lee lost around 33.3% of his soldiers so he had to retreat.

    Antietam/ Emancipation Proclamation Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamtion after the battle at Antietam. It called for all slaves that lived in areas that weren't occupied in rebellion against the Union to be freed on January 1, 1863. 180,00 slaves were freed by Congress to fight in the war.

    Battle of Gettysburg Geenral Lee and his troops made an invasion into Pennsylvania and managed to push the Union back, but the next day the Union attacked. Then on July 3, Lee tried to attack the Union once more but suffered very large losses resulting in another failure of trying to take control of the North and overtake the Union.

It was a dedication to all of the men who died during the Battle of Gettysburg. There were exactly 272 words in the Gettysburg Address.

    Appomattox Courthouse Robert E Lee Surrenders to Ulysses S Grant In early April, Grant and the union once again broke through the Confederate's defense. Lee finally realized that they had no hope. He finally gave in to General Grant at the town of Appomattox Courthouse.
