  • Karol Borya is in Concentration Camp

    Karol Borya is in Concentration Camp
    This is the first major event in the book. It is an important description of Karol's experience in the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria. He witnesses the interrogating of four German soldiers about the location of the Amber Room. It is snowing and the four soldiers are forced to stand tied to a pole outside without any clothes on. Anytime one would refuse to answer, they would have cold water poured onto their bare skin by Karol and other prisoners.
  • Karol is Killed

    An art hunter, Christian Knoll, learns that Karol Borya is still alive and may be the last source for information on the Amber Room. He goes to Karol's house and talks to him. Karol refuses to tel Christian anything. Karol thinks Christian leaves, but Christian pushes Karol down the stairs, and makes the incident look like an accident.
  • Paul Finds the Letters

    Paul Finds the Letters
    Paul Cutler, Karol's ex son-in-law, finds Karol's will, along with letters exchanged between Karol and an old friend. He shows Rachel, his ex-wife, and they both ponder about what really happened to Karol and what he knew about the Amber Room.
  • Rachel Cutler and Christian Knoll go to Germany

    Rachel Cutler and Christian Knoll go to Germany
    Rachel Cutler, upset about her father's death, makes a rash decision to go to Germany and find her father's old friend. Christian Knoll follows Rachel and pretends to bump into her in Germany and convinces her to go along with him to find this friend. Rachel does not know that Knoll killed her father. The two set out to find Chapaev, Karol's friend.
  • Rachel and Christian Explore a Cave

    Rachel and Christian Explore a Cave
    Rachel and Christian Knoll excavate a cave that Chapaev said the Amber Room was located. As they are walking through the cave, Rachel gets a weird feeling. She turns around and sees Knoll holding a knife above her head when all of a sudden, an explosion goes off in the cave.
  • Suzanne Takes the Lead

    Suzanne Danzer, another art hunter, is introduced a couple chapters after Christian is introduced. Her and Christian constantly battle for artwork, including the most valuable art work, The Amber Room. She followed Christian and figured out his plans, so she beat him to Chapaev's house and threatened him to give false information to Christian and Rachel. Know knowing what cave they would be headed to, she placed explosives inside the cave and waited for them to enter. After blowing up the cave,
  • Paul Goes to Germany

    Paul Goes to Germany
    Paul receives a call from German police about Rachel. He boards a flight to Germany and meets with Finnick, a German police officer. While talking to Paul, Finnick receives a call about a murder case. The two go to the scene, and they soon identify the victim as Chapaev. A few hours later, Paul and Rachel meet each other and talk about all the events that have happened thus far, and piece together some of the information.
  • New Excavation

    New Excavation
    Rachel and Paul, reading about another excavation by an American named Wayland McKoy, decide to meet the man, since his excavation site is not far from where they are. They meet up with Wayland, acquaintance themselves with each other, and get to explore the cave with him. They see here giant transport trucks in the center of the room, but they are empty. While exploring, Paul notices three letters traced in the sand near a truck.
  • The Realization

    Paul and Rachel once again talk about the events and the information they have collected. They realize who Christian and Suzanne are, and how the letters spell Loring, Suzanne's employer. They relay this information to McKoy, who is intrigued yet sad about this new information.
  • Time for the Truth

    Rachel, Paul, and McKoy gather more information on Suzanne and Christian and The Amber Room. They decide to follow Suzanne to her castle to see if that is where the Amber Room is being stored. They don't realize that Christian Knoll also has that same idea, and is following her as well. Once at the castle, they confront Loring and Suzanne and demand answers. Loring admits he has found the Amber Room many years ago. Later that night, Loring assigns Suzanne the task of killing the three Americans
  • Ending

    A huge fight between everyone in the castle results with Loring, Suzanne, and Christian deceased while the other three are still alive...barely. After spending a few days in the hospital and talking to police, the three decide to go home.
