    Traveling through many countries is going to be very fun! But we needed to watch for some illnesses that are spreading. LIke in China we need to take percautions for the avian influenza, Brazil- dengue fever, Australia- hepititis B, Morocco- human enfluenza epidemic, Galapagos- west nile and Bora Bora- typhoid! Naya got very sick in China, she had a sore throat and diarrhea. She told us that she didn't take her medications. Also in Bora Bora we all had fevers and pains from typhoid fever!

  • China, The Common Carp

    China, The Common Carp
    The Common Carp fish is a fish in China. Scientific name: Cyprinus carpio, Class: Cyprinidae, Order: Cypriniformes. The carp reproduces by laying eggs. One apdaptation that helps the carp survive is that it can withstand water with low oxygen levels by gulping air at the top of the water.Also they produce over one million eggs a yer so their their population will stay balanced due to all the predators. They are omnivores so they can eat whatever which also helps clean the environment.

    Bora Bora; Angel Fish
    Scientific name-Pterophyllum Altum, Kingdom-Animalia, Phylum-Chordata, Class-Actinopterygii, Order-Perciformes, Family-Cichlidae, Genus-Pterophyllum. A Structure that has helped adapt is the triangular dorsal and anal fins,which allows the body to hide them among roots and plants. Another structure is the coloration.Lastly,they are frequently striped longitudinally which is also used for camoflague. They lay eggs to reproduce. Very imporant to ecoystem, they provide a food source.

    Brazil: Brazillian Golden Frog
    Scientific Name-Animalia, Phylum-Chordata,Class-Anura, Family-Brachycephalidae,Genus-Brachycephalus,Species- B.didactylus. The hands of the frog are webbed so they can swim fast. The Brazillian Golden frog is greens so they can blend in with their enviroment. Lastly, they have sticky fingers so they can stick to trees/leafs. They impact their enviroment by eating most insects which helps the community.

    Morocco, Olive Ridley Sea Turtle
    The olive Ridley sea turtle (Lepidochelys olivacea) is in the Class of Reptilia an the order of Testudines.They have one to two visible claws on each of their paddle-like flippers.The olive ridley is most noted for its massive nesting aggregations, known as arribadas.They produce about 100 to 110 eggs on each occasion.The rather streamlined shape of the head and carapace reduces the amount of energy required to move.
    One of the most abundant turtles on earth.

    The Blue-Footed Booby is one of the birds of The Galapagos. Scientific name:Sulidae Sula, Class: Aves, Order: Suliformes. The animal lays eggs and is a fish eating bird. The Booby has had to adapt to the islands. It has a mouth to swoop down and grab fish out of the water with special sacs in their head to make dives in the water. They have the ability to make nests out of many items along the shore. The are able to lay eggs anywhere. They are important because keep the fish count in order.

    Red Kangaroos live in Australia. They come from the class Mammalia and order Diprotodontia and they are Marsupials. Their scientific name is Macropus rufus. They have powerful back legs that help them jump far, a big tail to help keep balance, females can control when the joey can leave the pouch. During reprodution the baby goes from the ovary to the uterus (where it develops into a neonate) then goes to the pouch. They help the environment by eating dry grasses which help lessen bushfires.
