    This is a photo of a woman named Mary jemison. She was born as an american and had a nice life with her wonderful family. On this day a party of French soldiers and Shawnee Warriors swiped through Mary's home and captured her and her family. While Mary was still young and didn't really didn't know what was going on, her family was led away from her to only to be killed and skulled.

    England attempted to win the new world until William Pitt came along in 1757 with the higher power of prime minister. Him hisself lead to victories in the French and Indian war also including Europe.

    This man was someone who convinced tje British colonist to destroy military forts. While doing this, one target was Fort Duquense. Since the supply lines were failing to and from this fort he had to stop what he was doing. After this the French tracked down the British and destroyed their fort just before they were about to take flight and leave.

    At the time Fort Pitt was one of the largest of five forts built by the British and French. Because of this the two sides went to war for control of the land.

    In 1796 Pittsburgh Had up to 230 Houses And 800 Citizens. This made people want to expand their living circumstances and make the home more of a HOME. To the this, the streets and places Market Square, Grant Street, Liberty Avenue and Penn Avenue were created.

Around the time of 1794 the Whiskey Rebellion ran by many rebels who supported the tax on whiskey were convinced Hugh Henry Brackenridge to not burn down the town. With much negotiation the rebels agreed.

    This is a woman who was aginst slavery ans wrote about it in her weekly paper "Pittsburgh Saturday Visitor" alongside with Martin R Delaney while also writing for womens rights. With all her efforts married women eventually were allowed to become their own property and take care of themselves.

    Ebenezer Denny Got elected to be mayor on March 18 1816. He often wrote in his diary about 1786 when the British were forced to surrender In Virginia Yorktown.

    Neville B Craig was born in 1787. Throughout his years he grew up as a normal child, in 1829 he bgean working for the publisher and editor of the Pittsburgh Gazette all the way until 1841. When 10 years later (1851) he created Pittsburgh's first published history.

    In 1842 a new court building was built at the very top of Grants Hill. ( One spot that survived the fire.) The design was John Chislett who was Pittsburgh's very first architect who designed the city's oldest office building.

    A fire broke out in Pittsburgh from a washerwomans open fire. This fire consumed most of Pittsburgh and burned itsself out when it got to Boyds Hill. Almost 1,000 buldings and homes altogether were burned to the ground leaving many homless and 2 dead. Articles about the fire were everywhere leaving Pittsburgh with the new name "Doomed City". But instead of quitting members of this strong city started rebuilding immediatley.

Martin graduated from Harvard Medical School and in the paper argued that President James Polk should allow African Americans to enter the Mexican War. With this paper Delaney was the first African American to serve as a field officer in the Civil War.

    The bank first openned in 1855 but wasn't officially done being built until 1871. It was designed by Isaac Hobbs and designed with a very classical style.

    The original Rodman Gun was made during the Civil War, it was the largest in the world. It supplied the union with warships and many other supplies.

    The duquesne incline bacame a part of Pittsburgh in 1877 and cost $47,000 to build. by the time 1880 had hit over 500,000 people had ridden on it.
  • Homestead Strike

    Homestead Strike
    This strike was considered one of the bloodiest and wortst strikes in America. Steelworkers were upset and Henry Clay Frick hired 300 pinkertons to guard the mill. With the rage of angry steelworkers and angry pinkertons someone fired a first shot and no one knows who did. At the end of all of the commotion 61 people were left dead and 150 people were injured. After all that MANY new workers were hired.

    Luna park was built on Aspinwall estate. This popular park got up to about 35,000 people a day. It was a hit in 1905 until a lion escaped and killed a woman in 1907. After the parks popularity ended quickly.

    Dr. Frank Conrad was a man who experimented with wireless telephones which eventually led to the amateur radio station KDKA. On this day KDKA radio broadcasted the the very first Radio Broadcast as a presidential elction right here in Pittsburgh!

    This ride at Kennywood park was inspired by the original King Tut's tomb itself! The original tomb is in Egypt and was openned in November 1922. The ride was high and popular until 1924 when it was finally taken out of Kennywood Park.

    Charles Lindbergh was a famous pilot and often claimed as a hero. He made the first solo nonstop flight across the Atlantic Ocean. On this day he visisted Pitt Stadium in Pittsburgh and was praised for hours by thousands of people for his heroic actions.

    This image is showing the outcome of pittsburgh's worst flood where waters rose to a little over 46 feet above town. Some waters even went over 20 feet deeo in some places! At the time, the only way around town were rowboats and conoes.The cause of this was low temperatures led to much of the ice melting.

    On this day Westinghouse introduced a new experiment that that they hoped would "solve much mystery around them surrounding the structure of matter." Not much of a year later the WORLD'S very first atom smasher appeared in the neighborhood Forest Hills. In the same spot an important experimenter found the discovery of "photofission" which means the use of gamma rays to split urianium atoms.

    In this picture, President Franklin D Roosevelt came to Pittsburgh. The reason he came was to "inspect the Homestead Works and Mesta Machine Plant". These two companies were the two important producers of war arnament. Although he was here on an important job which was to make sure that his workers were doing good jobs on helping keep the country safe, the streets were lined up with cheering fans and admirers to show their appreciation towards their president.

    In this photo Pittsburgh decided to have a "blackout rehersal" to get ready for war. This was claimed to be "a light up night in reverse". Although Pittsburgh was going dark, not all lights were out. Things like bridge lights and street lights were still burning to make the city look more beutiful than ever. This was a big deal for the city as they approached the feeling of war. Although this was a serious event for practice you still heard the sounds of laughter and joyness through the dark.

    In this photographb two women are breaking discs. They were doing this so the mess they made would be recycled and used for good benefits. Many of the older discs at this time were made out of a special material that the soldiers of World War II used in explosives, flares, the outside of bullets, ect. Newer discs were actually used to bring the soldiers spirits during war.

    This is a happy image of Downtown Pittsburgh after the news came around 7:00 p.m that the devistating war was over and also won by the brave soldiers of the US. This news was so great thet it was announced by 7:00 and "By the time 7:02 hit, the streets were flooded with cheering people and confetti."

    This is a image of Pittsburgh's worst snow storm ever! The snow had went to 30.5 inches. It was so bad that thougands of cars, and trolleys were stranded through the unwanted amount of snow. To prepare for the rough day inside, people were in stores stalking up on food and drinks.

    When George Washington stood on top of a cliff looking at where the three rivers connect and saw that it was a very good spot to put a fort. Eventully the spot turned to Fort Pitt. Over that time Pittsburgh was paying lots of money to change the way its city was living. Eventually a part of this transformation lead to The Point turning into a park. THis transformation officially happened on August 30 1974 which was also when the fountain was dedicated to a special person.

    This image contains Josie Carey and Fred Rogers. Josie Carey was the original host of the tv show "Children's Corner" of the 1950's. Fred Rogers normally wrote music to go along with Josie's lyrics for the shows tunes. Together they created 68 songs together before later splitting up and leading Fred Rogers to have his own show "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood".

After one year at Carnegie Mellon University, Peduto transferred to Pennsylvania State University, pursuing a degree in political science. He dropped out.

On this day, William celebrated the first paper being printed after 8 long hard months without doing his passion.

    This is an image of the Steelers coach and a one of the amazing players celebrating another victory in 2009 of winning the NFL Championship game against the Arizona Cardinals. This was Super Bowl XLIII. It was also a very intense game going back and forth through the scoreboard from one team winning to the next. But in the end with 2:30 left in the game the Steelers managed an amazing come back ending the game with a score of 27-23.
