A uruguayan rugby team went on a plane in Montevideo on a trip to play a match in Santiago, Chile.
-
The same day while on their way to Santiago, Chile it was hard to fly because of the harsh weather conditions they faced there. The pilot soon decided to take an alternate route to Chile over the Andes Mountains.
-
They were over the Andes Mountains when the pilot notified the air controllers in Santiago and he was allowed to go down. But, there was an error and the winds and clouds made it harder for the pilot to gain control over the plane. This resulted in them crashing in a mountain now named the "Glacier of Tears".
-
The crash consequenced in 45+ deaths including the deaths of the pilot, and only doctor that was on the plane.
-
Search parties from different countries started looking for the missing plane, but after 11 days of searching they gave up. After hearing that the survivors were devastated but one person didn't want to give up.
-
Since they were there for so long, they had to find things to eat and use for shelter. But they were also up in a mountain with no animals near or food left in the plane. They soon decided to eat the dead passengers also on the plane.
-
They then decided to go up to the mountains and again to search for any life of people. Many people continued to die because of the harsh weathers and malnutrition.
-
They finally went down and followed a river and they luckily found a man on a horse and got helped. They were then rescued and well known for their journey.
