    Ford Motor Co. announces a 40-hour work week
    Ford was one of the first companies to have a five day, 40 hour work week. They also raised the minimum wage from $2.34 to $5.00 for an eight hour work day. Ford company believed that every man should have a more time to spend with his family than at work all the time.
  • The Palmer Raids

    The Palmer Raids
    The Palmer Raids were are series of raids conducted by the United States Department of Justice run by Woodrow Wilson. The goal of these raids were to capture and arrest suspected radicals, more anarchists, and have them deported from the United States. General A. Mitchell Palmer led these raids.This all occured during the 'red scare' , a name given to the fear of communism radicals.

    The Tulsa Riot is sometimes referred to as the Tulsa Massacre. A black male,Dick Rowland age 19, was trying to catch an elevator and accidentally bumped into the elevator operator, Sarah Page age 17, causing her to let out a scream. Nearby a store clerk heard a women scream then a black male running away, he went over to see what happened and Page said that she was assaulted. A white mob attacked black residents of Tulsa, 800 people were sent to the hospital and 6,000 blacks were arrested.

    In 1924 Congress granted citizenship to Native Americans born in the U.S. Yet even after this act, some Native Americans were still not allowed to vote since that was controlled by the states. The act was signed partially to recognize the thousands of Indians that served in World War 1.

    The great mississippi flood was the most destructive river flood in American history. Nearly 27,000 miles were in up to 30 feet of water, more than 630,000 people were affected. In an effort to stop floodings they set up 30 tons of dynamite to release water.

     Work Begins on Mount Rushmore
    Mount Rushmore was made in Black Hills National Forest of South Dakota. It took 12 year to make George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt into the mountain. He chose these four presidents because they had such an impact on U.S. history. This was funded by the federal government costing 1 million dollars.

    Columbine miners have been striking for five weeks at this point and up until now its been peaceful, the owner of the mining company even gave them coffee and doughnuts. With winter approching the governor of Colorado feared a state wide coal shortage, meaning a cold winter. He had rangers dress up like civilians and positioned them on mine tipples. Six working men were killed and dozens were injured, they deny using machine guns . The press covered up everything from the public.
