    Election of Lincoln
    Abraham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president of America on November 6th 1860. During a debate between Lincoln and Douglas, one of the opposing candidates, Lincoln argued against the spread of slavery while Douglas disagreed saying that each territory should decide wether it would become free or have slaves. Lincoln lost the Senate race but his campaign brought attention to the Republic Party helping him win the election.

    TX Secedes from Union
    Texas was the seventh state to secede from the union because of its decision to join the Confederate states because Texans didn't like Lincoln's decision to remove the owning of slaves. After the election of Lincold the pressure weighed on Houston to decide wether or not to secede from the Union.

    Houston Kicked Out Of Office
    Houston was kicked out of office because he refused to pledge Allegiance to the Confederate States of America. He was not willing to move his allegiance to the Confederacy. For his decision he was kicked out of office.
  • Battle At Fort Sumter

    Battle At Fort Sumter
    The Battle at Fort Sumter began the American Civil War and Fort Sumter surrendered to the Confederate States. South Carolina wanted the US's Army leaves their facilities in Charelston Harbor. On Saturday, April 13th Maj. Anderson surrendered the fort.

    Battle Of Galveston
    William B. Renshaw led his troops made up on eight ships into Galveston harbor to demand the surrender of the port. The Confederates entered Galveston on January 1st, 1863 and decided to open fire before dawn. The port remained part of the Confederate's control for the rest of the war.

    The Battle Of Gettysburg
    The Battle of Gettysburg lasted from July 1st to July 3rd. General Robert E. Lee wanted to weaken the North's eagerness for war. On the last day over ten thousand men had either been killed or wounded.
  • Battle of Sabine Pass

    Battle of Sabine Pass
    The Battle of Sabine Pass was one of the few attempts by the Union to occupy parts of Texas. Once the gunboats stationed at the mouth of the river fired the battle began, with the ships flowing through the pass firing at the fort. In the end the Confederate won the battle for Texas.

    Red River Campaign
    The battle began at the Confederate capital of Louisiana. The objectives for this battle were; to prevent the Confederate from allying with the French in Mexico, and obtaining large amounts of cotton from Texas and Louisiana for the north. In the end, the Confederate won.
  • End of The Civl War

    End of The Civl War
    The end of the four year war was on April 9th 1865. It ended with the last Confederate Army surrendering. A total of 620,000 people were killed from both the Union and The Confederate.
  • Battle of Palmino Ranch

    Battle of Palmino Ranch
    This was the last land battle of the Civil War. Towards the end of the war, the Union retreated when they got caught in a sharp firefight. In the end the Confederacy won.
  • Juneteenth

    Juneteenth
    Juneteenth marks the day that slavery was ended in America. On June 19th 1865 Major General Gordon Granger, controlling a patrol of The Union marched down to Galveston, Texas to report that the war was over.
  • Reconstruction Ends

    Reconstruction Ends
    Some southern states legislatures passed out "black codes" to monitor former slaves. The north did not like the codes and outrage eroded. Even after the war racism was still a problem in both the north and south states.
