Technology Timeline

    2013 Student Teaching
During my student teaching experience, the only access to technology was a desktop computer and a projector. My classroom did not have a smartboard or a laptop cart. If I wanted students to use computers I would need to sign up for one of the computer labs at least a few weeks before we needed them and even then sometimes they were all booked up.
  • Summer School Health

    Summer School Health
My first post grad teaching experience was teaching high school health in summer school. Again, all I had to work with was a computer (this time a laptop!) and a projector. Most students at this school had access to a computer and internet at home so at home assignments often had an option for either. This teaching assignment had more consistent access to a computer lab.
  • FACS switch

    FACS switch
In 2014 I started teaching Family Consumer Science classes. With just a laptop and smartboard and no experience teaching FACS, I was just trying to get by day by day. I would have students for 4-5 weeks at a time and then get a new group. It was not practical to get students into a computer lab.
  • One-to-one

    One-to-one
In 2015, my middle school went one-to-one. Not all students would bring their laptops to class and those who did would bring them with no charge. I quickly became frustrated with needing to make alternative assignments for those without laptops which doubled my workload. Often digital assignments were basically the same as on paper just on the laptop instead.
  • Technology Paradise

In 2017, I moved onto a temporary teaching placement in a nationally recognized school district. The amount of technology was incredible and endless. Students each had a working Chromebook and knew how to use it. I started using technology for more than just power points and digital worksheets. Students were able to collaborate on projects online at home. We started to have discussions online and I started to view technology in a whole new way.
  • Begins Masters Degree

In May 2018 I began my masters degree with a concentration on educational tech. I had never taken an ed tech course and after a few years of teaching one-to-one I was very interested but also very lost!
  • TCH 430

Began ReDesigning course material with connected learning in mind. Began to really challenge my thoughts on technologies place in my classroom.
