    Railroad workers all over the country struck because the railroad companies kept cutting wages. They called for fair wages, an 8 hour work day and an end to child labor.

    This is one of the first times when automation and assembly lines were being implemented. It allowed for production of wheat harvesters to nearly double.

    It was at this time that the peoples' party nominated James. b. Weaver as their presidential nominee.

    the panic of 1893 was the worst depression the US had seen ever. The populist party was seen as the solution to the economic problem in the states and gained more attention.

    The Great Merger Movement

    After the realization of assembly line efficiency. The only way for small business to thrive was to merge together to form big business that would dominate the markets. Standard Oil is an example of this, they merged with other small businesses and then came to control 90% of all oil refineries at the time.
