    GATT Came Into Effect
    The General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade came into effect after being signed by Canada and 22 other countries other nations on October 20, 1947 (Wilkinson). The agreement was proposed following World War II, to increase international trade while maintaining regulations (Staff, Investopedia). GATT was replaced by the World trade Organization in 1995, which still maintains all GATT agreements (Cruxton and Wilson 299). (Kayla)

    Avro Arrow's First Flight
    The Avro Arrow was a supersonic jet interceptor developed by A.V. Roe. The Avro Arrows purpose was to protect Canada from Soviet bombers. The Avro arrow was cancelled and replaced with Bomarc missiles from the U.S on February 20 1959 (Kirton). (Ashok)

    First CANDU Reactor in Operation
    CANDU is an acronym for Canada Deuterium Uranium. The technology was invented in Canada, uses deuterium as a moderator and uranium as fuel ("CANDU..."). The first CANDU reactor, Nuclear Power Demonstration (NDP), could be refuelled while still operating in full power (Earle). NDP was located on the Ottawa River near the Ontario-Quebec border (Earle).     Trans-Canada Highway was Opened
    Trans-Canada Highway, 7821 kilometres, allowed Canadians to drive from Newfoundland to British Columbia (Gilchrist). The construction of the highway finished in 1970, and had cost over $1 billion (Gilchrist). Federal money was used to construct the Trans-Canada Highway (Cruxton and Wilson 344). (Kayla)

  • Canadarm's First Flight

    Canadarm's First Flight
    The Canadarm was launched into space aboard the space shuttle Columbia November 13, 1981. The Canadarm allows astronauts to perform tasks they could otherwise not do such as retrieving satellites in space, lift satellites out of the shuttles cargo hold and set them out in orbit (Cruxton and Bradley 425).     Brian Mulroney is a Canadian politician who served as Canada's 18 Prime Minister. He served as Prime Minister from 1984-93 and was the leader of the Progressive Conservative Party. Brian Mulroney as Prime Minister pursued a closer relationship with USA in terms of bilateral issues, such as trade policies. Mulroney negotiated the NAFTA with US President at the time, George bush and with the Mexican President at the time, Carlos Salinas de Mortar (The Editors of Encyclopedia Britannica). (Panveer)

    The Canadian Space Agency (CSA) was created by an Act of Parliament (Dotto). The purpose of the Canadian Space Agency is to "promote the peaceful use and development of space" and "to advance the knowledge of space through science" ("Canadian..."). The agency is responsible for satellite development, space robotic technology, the Canadian Astronaut Program (Dotto).
