German inventor Karl Benz patented his Motorwagon. Fords Model T was one of the first cars available to the masses but this car was considered the first modern car. -
The "Tractor" Is Invented
John Froelich invents the first successful "tractor" that could be driven forward and backwards. It was powered by gasoline and was used to thresh wheat. It was invented in Northeast iowa. -
First Mechanical Fridge
Albert T. Marshall patented the first mechanical fridge. It was a big step up from using ice and insulation for keeping things cold. -
The First Airplane
Wilbur and Orville Wright made and flew the first successful airplane. They made four brief flights at Kitty Hawk with their first airplane. -
First Handheld Phone and Phone Call
The first mobile phone and phone call was by Motorola. The first call was from Martin Cooper, a researcher and executive for Motorola, to Dr. Joel S. Engel, of Bell Labs, his rival. -
The First Laptop
The first laptop was the Osborne 1. Adam Osborne was a former book publisher. The Osborne 1 weighed 24 pounds and cost $1795. -
The first iPhone
The iPhone 1 (also referred to as iPhone 2G) was the first iPhone designed and marketed by Apple. It was 4.5 inches by 2.4 inches and had 4 and 8GB of memory. It cost $499 for the 4GB of storage model and $599 for the *BG of memory model. -
The First iPad
The first iPads screen resolution was 1024 x 768 pixels. It could have up to 10 hours of use and weighed 1.5 pounds. The cost depending on storage and 3G options raged from $499 to $829. -
iPhone 11
The iPhone 11 has 6.1 inch screen and weighs 194grams. It can have up to 256 GB of storage. The camera quality of this iPhone is a dramatic step up from those of the past. (For this event we are using the release date and not the launch date) -
Self Driving Cars
Elon Musk states that by the middle of 2020 that drivers will not have to pay attention to the road. It seems like we are a long ways away but Tesla does claim to have the hardware needed in the future for their self driving cars. -
High Power Wireless Charging
A new Dipole Coil Resonant System can wirelessly power devices up to 15 feet away. The DCRS system achieves this using a magnetic field. Essentially working similarly to WIFI but not as strong of a signal. -
