    It was used by the British forces. They attacked the positions of the German 28th Reserve Infantry. The British had 32 tanks in an effort to break stalemate on the Somme.

    The Mark IV tank entered production in May 1917, significant improvements have been made for the armor. It was the British tank used in the greatest numbers of wars during World War I with 420 males, 595 females, and 202 supply variants constructed.

    By the end of World War I there were only 125 tanks produced by the British military. The tanks were sold to Canada and some were stored in storage.
  • Challenger Tank

    In World War II the Challenger Tank was invented by the British forces. This 32-ton vehicle was armed with a 76mm mounted gun and a browning machine gun. It also carried 5 men. This vehicle first saw action in the Battle of Normandy. There were 4,000 Challenger Tanks but only 200 were rolled off the production line.

    Around 50,000 M4 Shermans were produced between 1941 and 1945. The tank remained in the service until the mid-1950s in the US- including the Korean War- and was supplied to a number of international organizations armies.

    The 1980s saw the introduction of the Challenger 1 in British service and the M1 Abrams in US service, both of which heralded a major step forward in tank design and capability. The Challenger 1 was replaced by the Challenger 2 in the mid- 1990s. It remains the main battle tank in service with the British army to date and will remain so until 2035.
