    Since Li Shimin (Tang Taizong) was a powerfull man during the battle to take control over China, his brothers and his father recognized him as a threat. As a result they planned numerous time to try and assassinate him, but they failed as Tang Taizong had managed to-instead-kill Li Yuan and Yang You (Tang Taizong's brothers) and he then forced his father to give up, or abdicate, the throne (Chinaculture.org). Because of this Li Shimin had the option to become China's new Emperor.

    During 630 Turkish Tribes were trying to invade China, but Tang Taizong had managed to prevent them from invading. After his success in protecting China he expanded his Empire westward. He also reopened the silk road which ended at the capital city of Chang'an. As a result "foreign traders of many different nationalities settled in Chang'an, which became the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the world" (Perkins. 504).
