The Eueropean Union (EU) had placed an embargo on Syria. An embargo means that that county is banned on trade. Although the embargo does not include President Assad.

Syrians are attempting to flee from Syria to Lebanon. While as they come in Leabaese forces send them right back. The refugees then must go back to a violent and deadly Sryia, which is under the Assad regime.

The US planned on sanctioning Assad because of his brutal crack down on pro-democracy protests. A sanction is a ban on trade. This will essentially cut off most of his assets.

Al-Qaida's current leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has praised Sryian protesters for their efforts. Syrians reject their comments because they feel that Al-Qaida is just trying spark something out of this peaceful protest. Some people said that not one Syrian would accept this comment.

The United States had its ambassador, Robert Ford pulled out of Syria. This decision was made after there were multiple credible threats on his life. Although he was pulled out his deputy remained there to carry out his duties.
