Killing Protesters
There were protests going about 5 cities. In Daraa is where is turned very bad. To the point where there were deaths. Five people died. Syrian leaders wanted to get to the bottom of this. The peope who were responsible were charged with damaging the county's image. It was important to include this even because there has not been a protest this bad in quiet some time. Also the fast the people were only charged with destroying the country's image, is crazy. -
Reforms promised
Bashar al-Assad promised to end emergancy laws. Even though that is what the people have wanted, they continue to protest. Now they also want more freedoms, end abuse, the release of politacal prisoners. Assad said there were bigger problems like unempolyment. He ignored what the people wanted. I choose this as an important event because even though Assad tried to give them something they wanted, it was not enough. They wanted more and then Assad changes his story and says there's more important -
Dozens Killed
70 protesters killed during the revolt against the president. They fired at anyone who was at Hama. Thosands of people attending the funerals of these people. There was a lot of anger and tension after the killings. I chose this even because it was the Syrian forces that killed the protestors. If Syria wants a good image why would they kill so many people? -
Children being killed?
Children have been killed and arrested during these protests. Many schools are closed and won't open for awhile. Some children that know what's going on, rip up their text books. A lot of kids under the age of 18 are trying to take action too, but they're ending up in trouble and hurt. I chose this event because now children are getting involved and being affects. They're schoolings being postponed, arrested and killed. -
Beyond His Control
People are blaming Assad for the thosands of deaths during the protest. He says it's the goverment military. He's just the president, it has nothing to do with him. People are saying he is messed up because it does have to do with him. Assad keeps claiming he has never given orders to kill. This is event is important because the president is saying he had nothing to with any of it. He says the deaths are not his fault. Who gave the goverment permission then?
