    The Dharmasastras are completed. The oldest Dharmasastra, the Manusmriti, is thought to be published aroun this time; 200 BCE to about 200 CE. However, the rest of the Dharmasastras that are after Manusmriti, have not been written until about 500 CE.

    Adi Shankara is born. The Hindu philosopher and theologian Shankara (d. 750) are assumed to be born as well in this time period; 700 CE. He is known for founding the Advaita sub-school of Vedanta. Shankara teaches that unity with the Brahman, can’t exist within dualistic thinking. Shankara's Advaita school inspires other Hindu philosophers Madhva (1199 CE) and Ramanuja (1017 CE) to make their own schools.

    Ramanuja was born in this time. Ramanuja, a Hindu theologian, was born in Sriperumbudur, India. He founded the Visistadvaita sub-school of Vedanta. He teaches others should make a united relationship with the divine while know the difference between them.

    Madhva was born.The Hindu philosopher Madhva (1199 –1278), founded a Dvaita (dualistic) sub-school of Vedanta, was born in Kalyanpur, India. He teaches that to have interactions with the divine, humans have to be a different entity. This is very different from other schools which suggest non-dualistic view.

    Atmiya Sabha founded Ram Mohun Roy (May 22, 1772 – Sep. 27, 1833), one of Hinduism's first steps into modern day Hinduism. He is one of the first religious and social reformers, and he establishes the Atmiya Sabha to promote his doctrines of monotheistic Hinduism in India.

    Vedanta College and Anglo-Hindu School are founded in this year. The Vedanta College and the Anglo-Hindu School are made by Ram Mohun Roy further promote the spread of his monotheistic version of Hinduism in India.

    Brahmo Sabha (the Congregation of Brahman) is founded by Ram Mohun Roy. It is an official monotheistic sect of Hinduism. This is his final and most important try to make a monotheistic Hindu sect.

    Ramakrishna is born. The mystic Ramakrishna (Aug. 16, 1886) is born in Bengal, India. He is famous for showing all the world's religions as the same, all equally valid paths to the same goal.

    Because of the mystic Ramakrishna there was a comeback in Hinduism throughout India. This sudden interest inspired other Indian leaders such as Monhandas Gandhi.

    Ramakrishna's teaching was brought to America. He is the first famous missionary to bring modern Hinduism to the West side of the world. In 1895, he founded the Vedanta Society in New York City, NY, to promote Hinduism in America.

    Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is born. Another Hindu religious leader, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is famous for studying techniques; transcendental meditation (TM).

    India has partitioned. India is divided into Pakistan and India as a result of Hindu-Muslim conflicts.

    Mohandas Gandhi is assassinated by Nathuram Godse in Delhi, India. Godse's motive thought that Gandhi's methods will eventually push the Hindus to abandon their religion and themselves. Even though Gandhi is gone his beliefs continue to inspire civil rights leaders in other movements, like Martin Luther King, Jr. in America.
