  • Association for Children with Learning Disabilities

    This association was a huge part in how things started to change for people with Disabilities, The LDA makes sure all individuals are accepted supported and powered to live a self-determined life.
  • PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

    After this, they called for students with disabilities to be placed in publicly funded school settings that met their individual educational needs.
  • Wolf Wolfensberger introuces the concept of normalization.

    Here they made a simple statement which led to a lot, that statement was "making available to the mentally retarded patterns and conditions of everyday life which are as close as possible to the norms and patterns of the mainstream of society."
  • PL 93- 112, The Rehabilitation Act is enacted.

    This was section 504 which prohibited the discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
  • Education for All Handicapped Children Act (PL 94-142)

    This act was passed in 1975, and in ensured a free appropriate public education for all children with disabilities.
  • Education of the Handicapped Act Amendments (PL 99-457)

    The act was enacted in 1986, and it mandated a special education for preschoolers with disabilities and incentives for providing early intervention services to infants and toddlers.
  • Americans with Disabilities Act (PL 101-336)

    This becomes a law in 1990 and prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (PL 101-476)

    This emphasized transition planning for adolescents with disabilities.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (PL 105-17)

    This act was reauthorized in 1997, which provided a major retooling and expansion of services for students with disabilities and their families.
  • No Child Left Behind Act (PL 107-110)

    This provided a major educational reform effort focusing on academic achievement of students and qualifications of teachers.
  • Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (PL 108-446)

    This act aligned IDEA legislation with provisions of No Child Left Behind.
