James Cook

George Vancouver (1758-1798)

With his ships he reached the Strait of Juan de Fuca (near what is now the US-Canadian border). He also sailed to Puget Sound (near what is now Seattle). -
Leif Ericson (980-1020)
More InfoLeif ericson was a Norse viking explorer who was possibly the first European to sail to North America. He probably knew about it from Bjarni Herjulfsson, an Icelandic explorer who spotted North America, but never reached it because of a storm. After his finding Ericson inherited his fathers leadership posotion of the Norse colony in Greenland.
