Southern States Unhappy about Hamilton's Plan
1st Primary SourceThe Hamilton plan consisted of him hating the nation's agricultural economy. He wanted to make an economy that could support a large federal government. Not paying attention or caring about the agricultural part of the nation. Which is what made the Southern States quite angry, because they were very agricultural. It was really a process of the Southern States taking care of the North. Like how Hamilton called for tarrif's to protect the infant factories which made the South pay more.

  • Hamilton compromises

    Hamilton compromises
Debates started happening, with American's either supporting Hamilton or Jefferson and Madison. Jefferson and Madison kept thrashing on Hamilton on how his way of construction is not good and terrible for the government. In my opinion they were kinda on the Sourthern States side by claiming that America needed to keep a farm economy to take care of the Republic. Also, that an industrial development would lead to inequality.

So that included full funding of Federal debt and the implementation of new excise taxes which include the creation of a national bank. However, out of all this the rebellion failed because the men that he marched into the troubled region were never really up for it.

Hamilton interpreting the Constitution against Jefferson and Madison
So to gain atleast a little respect for his plan he broadly described the Constitution. He wanted to enact laws for the general welfare. This gave away horror to his critics who were mainly Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They favored a construction where the federal government was limited by the powers that the Constitution would grant them.

So to make it a little easier to carry around, people turned their grains in whiskey, which also had higher value. From the Western view, they were fighting for freedom and did not want to get taxed to pay for someone else's debt. This excise tax reminded rural farmers of the British taxes that was the whole point of the Revolutionary War. So they resisted the tax in violent ways.
  • Political Parties lead to Two Parties

Political Parties lead to Two Parties
2nd Website Link This all started really as a result of the Whiskey Rebillion. As Washington and Hamilton basically became partners and were leading the federal government idea, they wanted to make sure that it would for sure maintain its power and authority. Washington was not a fan of it obviously saying it was a "diabolical way of destroying the best way of human government and happiness." Also, obviosley as you would expect Madison and Jefferson defended them. However, they did not like the violence that was happening between the federalist and the clubs.

However, the founders of the Constitution did not really want them to emerge but no matter what they did it did not stop the Parties from coming. So after they formed there were two parties the Federalist and the Democratic Republicans. Not many understood the point of these parties but soon they would.

    Who Favored Who
5th Website Link The Northerners liked industry and trade and since the Federalists promoted that, Northerners supported the Federalists. Now the South, who were mainly farmers, supported the Democratic Republicans because they believed that America's economy should be based on agriculture. • Attracting Voters

    Attracting Voters
6th website link Luckily for the Federalists, they had some backup, because the first two Presidents and other government parts were all Federalists. They were able to attract the Voters. Who then credited the Fedealists. Why? The nation was slowly stablizing and getting increased prosperity. Which would have to do with industrialization and trade, and that's what Federalism was all about.
  • Democratic Republican Love

    Democratic Republican Love
7th Website Link Even though is looks like the Republicans were not getting any support they were by people who just wanted peace. Those people did not want to take the risk of the Federal government having too much power. The Democratic Republicans wanted for States to have power relative to the federal government.
