  • Headright System

    Headright System
    • Each white male counted as a "head" of a family and had the "right" to recieve up to 1,000 acres
    •During the settlement of the colony, much of the land east of the Oconee River belonging to the Indians was given to the settlers means to the right of the headright system
    • Althugh parts of the system lasted until the early twentieth century, it was largely replaced by a land lottery in 1803
  • University of Georgia

    University of Georgia
    • In 1784, the government set aside twenty thousand acres of land in order to build this college.
    • in 1785 the University of Georgia was chartered as a land grant university, it is the oldest school of that kind in the nation.
    • This university affected Georgia because it was to oversee all public schools in the state.
  • Louisville

    Louisville
    • Served as the capitial of Georiga for ten years.
    • Tobacco was a big cash crop, after the invention of the cotton gin many people began growing cotton.
    • Louisville affected Geogia because by the end of the 1790's the city was booming and doing very well economically.
  • Cotton Gin

    Cotton Gin
    • The cotton gin was made by Eli Whitney with some help from Catherine Greene Miller.
    • The making of the cotton gin made separating cotton seeds 10 times easier for workers.
    • This affected Georgia by time and labor- savings devices such as the cotton gin and grain reaper enabled Georgians to work larger and more profitable farms.
  • Yazoo Land Fraud

    Yazoo Land Fraud
    • The government planned to sell 35 million acres of land in western Georgia to four companies for $500,00.
    •In return, the companies would be able to establish a presence in the western part of the state
    • Doing that, it helped keep the frontier of Georgia safe.
  • Land Lottery

    Land Lottery
    • When land owned by the state or federal government were open for settlement.
    • This so called land lottery land was located west of the Oconee River. With a small fee white males over 21 could buy a chance to win land on the spin wheel
    • About 30 million acres of land were given away through the land lottery.
  • Railroads

    • The building of railroads was a major economic development during the early 1800's
    •it made traveling easier
    •It also helped trade among the states
  • Baptist/Methodist

    Baptist/Methodist
    • After the Revolutionary War, many ministers left America for Great Britain.
    • In addition to the Anglicans, Quakers, and Batists, Methodists circut raiders founded churches in the frontier region.
    • This affected Georgia because Georgia churches grew in size and
