    The equal-field system, used in China and Japan, ensured an equitable distribution of land based upon the needs of individual peasants. It helped to avoid the problems with land distribution that the Han dynasty had faced.

    2. Role of Peasants in Byzantine Society

    The Byzantine Empire relied upon a large class of free peasants to provide the people necessary for the theme system. They also provided the necessary agricultural base to support the Byzantine cities. Themes were reliant upon the large class to also provide military support in times of need once invaders attacked.

    3.Women’s Rights in the Qur’an

    The Qur’an is finished. Within, the Qur’an set the roles of Muslim men and women in society, granting women far more freedom than was generally given during the era. It enhanced the security of women in Muslim society, but still enforced male domination over women.

    4.Reduction of Rights of Muslim Women

    Muslim women gradually lost more and more rights as the patriarchal societies of Persia and Mesopotamia converted and were absorbed into the Muslim world, bringing many of their traditions. One such instance was the veiling of women, adopted from Persia, which further enforced the idea of women as the property of men. The Qur’an, since it was finished by Muhammad, continued to be interpreted in different ways, further limiting women’s rights.

    5.Discrimination Against Non-Muslims

    During the Umayyad dynasty, the non-Arabs within the empire were treated with disregard, and could not hope to enjoy access to Muslim wealth even after converting to Islam. Heavy taxes, called jizya were levied upon the non-Muslims in an effort to force them to convert.

    6.Adaptation of the Caste System

    The caste system expanded to include a far more diverse wealth of people as Muslims migrated into Northern India. New niches were created for migrants from Turkey and Muslim merchants.

    9.Rebellion of Byzantine Elite

    The success of the theme system led to problems within Byzantine society. An elite social class was created when the generals of the themes intermarried with local aristocracy. These powerful classes sometimes attempted to rebel against the central government to pursue their own policies. While the rebels never achieved success, they greatly weakened the strength of the state.

    10.Introduction of Caste System to South

    The caste system remained a constant in India, however, it was gradually introduced to Southern India, who had at first been resistant to the ideals of the caste system. It was only adopted during the Post-Classical Era.

    In Chola India, subjects were given autonomy in many of their decisions, with most towns and cities running their own affairs. Temples were the revolving point of social life, and often organized schooling for the surrounding area’s boys.

    During the Song era, foot binding became popular in China. This reinforced the patriarchal views of Chinese society, and it placed the wealthy women of China even further into the supervision of male figures in the Chinese households.
