Britain wanted to make more money from China because China makes more money out of Britain. In response to this, Britain started to trade opium, a very addictive drug, to the Chinese which was a way for Britain to make money. China did not like this, so they banned opium from China but this didn't stop Britain from secretly trading opium into China. As a result, the Opium problem got worse and China declared war.
