    Event 1

    The chapter starts with a god, which is in the form of a tortoise, falling from the sky and landing near a person named Brutha. Brutha thinks the god is a demon and seeks out help from his fellow brother of the god Om and they tell him to ignore it. While this is happening, Vorbis the inquisitor flips the tortoise upside down to die in the sun. Brutha saves the tortoise, who is the god Om. Brutha goes back to the brother and gets told to meet with Vorbis.

    Event 2

    Brutha goes to meet Vorbis in his office They have a conversation about Brutha's extremely good memory and Vorbis asks him to go to Ephebe with him. While this is happening Om is trying to find Vorbis but an eagle tries to eat him so Om hides under a statue.

    Event 3

    Brutha goes to Ephebe as part of a group, that includes Vorbis. When they get to Ephebe they go through a maze-like complex to get to the King's castle. While there, Brutha meets some philosophers this is the beginning of Brutha trying to think for himself.

    Event 4

    After talking with one of the philosophers Brutha and Om learn that Brutha is the only true believer of Om, the of his followers are just scared of the inquisitors.

    Event 5

    Brutha is forced by Vorbis to burn the library of Ephebe after learning that Vorbis had killed another brother of their church and blamed it on the Ephesians. Brutha has a really good memory, luckily he had already memorized most of the books in the library.

    Event 6

    After escaping Ephebe with a boat Brutha, Vorbis and Om who is hiding in Brutha's bag, crash and end up being stranded in a desert. They have to cross the desert to get back to the Temple of Om.

    Event 7

    When they are almost back to the temple, Vorbis ties Brutha up and Om gets taken into the sky by an eagle. Vorbis goes to the temple gathers a lot of people to carry a bronze tortoise into the desert and tie Brutha onto it. Om who is being carried by an eagle gets dropped on Vorbis' head killing him because the eagle thought it was a rock. Then Om chews through Bruthas ropes and as a result of Vorbis's death, becomes the 8th prophet of Om.

    The End

    Brutha and Om make a contract, stating that Om will not smite anyone for 100 years and Brutha improves relations with other religions and towns. Brutha dies on the day, the contract with Om ends.
