  • First slaves in America.

    First slaves in America.
    The first slaves were brought to the new world in the early 1620's. An estimate of 21 thousand slaves from Africa were moved to America from 1620 to 1700. Most of the slaves went to the portugeese part of the new world and the English part. Slaves worked on plantations or other places for their white masters.

    Cotton GIn.
    In 1974 Eli Whitney pattened the cotton gin, and was the first person to start major cotton plantations. To make clean cotton before it took a lot of man power, but he created a machine that was very simple, and easily made collected good cotton.

    Slavery In england ends.
    In 1833 the british parlament decided to free all slaves except in some minor parts in India. This happened after a massive revolt of slaves in 18301. The British parlament had two meetings and the outcome was the banning of slavery.
  • The Amistad Case

    In !739 two portugees planters purchased 53 black slaves. This violated all trities that existed at that time.

    This is the law that stated that all slaves that escaped to the north shall be returned to their masters if they get caught. Before If slaves escaped to th north they were concidered freed, but now that could not do that anymore.

    This was a package of 5 bills that were passed in the US in september of 1850 between the slave states of the south and the north states. Basically this law allowed each group to just live peacfully how they wanted to.

    Russian serfs freed.
    Zar of Russia Alexander II freed the russian serfs in 1861 and established the Emancipation Manifesto, which stated that royalty could not own serfs anymore. This led to major poverty because the former serfs had to pay taxes, though they did not have jobs with big income.
  • American civil war.

    American civil war.
    In spring of 1861 a civil war broke out between the north of US and the south. The war was faught over the rights to have slaves. The south wanted to have slaves so they wanted to libirate from the north and still have slaves. President Lincoln faught with the south states for freedom of black slaves and in 1865 the north won.

    Slavery banned in the US.
    President Lincoln established a law declaring that all slaves shall be free. This is called the Emancipation Proclamation and was issued during the course of the civil war.

    Emancipation Proclamation.
    President Lincoln issued this document, which stated that "all persons held as slaves" within the rebellious states "are, and henceforward shall be free." This was three years into the cvil war.
  • 13th Amendment

    The American congress has made the 13th Amadment stating that "Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."
  • Jim Crow laws.

    Jim Crow laws.
    This is the law that stated that racial interaction is not allowed. Meaning that a white person can not directly interact with a black person.
  • Brown vs Board of education.

    Brown vs Board of education.
    This is one of the most cases that the US supreme coart has dealed with. So called Brown vs Board of education is a case in which the board of education was questioned of why black kids could not learn in a school with white kids. After this black people were alound to learn in the same places as white people.
  • Afro american civil rights movement.

    Afro american civil rights movement.
    This was a movement that tried to get rid of racial descrimination towards black americans and give them the chance to vote for the president again.
  • Emmit Till

    In August 1955 a 14 year old black teen was brutaly murdered and found in a river by two individuals. Earlier he has said something to a white woman that she concidered a flirt. A few days later her husband and brother and law crushed the boys skull, ripped his eye out, shot him in the head and hid him in the river.

    Freedom Riders were civil rights activists who rode interstate buses into the segregated southern United States in 1961 and following years to test the United States Supreme Court decisions aboutblack people forbiden in white restaurants and waiting rooms and in busses too.
  • Martin Luther King Assasination.

    Martin Luther King Assasination.
    Marttin Luther King was a black rights activist, who faught for the rights of black people all around the world. His idol was Ghandi, and like him he believed that fighting with words is more efficent than with weapons. He got assasinated in 1968 by his oposition.

    The country of Mauritania is the last slavery strong hold. Only in 2007 it made some laws lighting the slavery situation in the counrty.
