it was in 1950 skateboarding first started, it was the mellow surfers who got the idea to surf on the streets, but nobody knows who made the first board. At the first skateboarding was only downhill slalom or freestyle, not much grinding and no big air jumps, in NYC streets.

today you can acctually join the Uptown skate school in NYC, and get one on one personal skateboarding lessons. There are even talks about skateboarding becoming an Olympic sport. And they say that NYC is a skaters paradise.
