    In 1851 gold was discovered in Ballarat Victoria starting the infamous Australian gold rush. An estimate of 6000 miners came every week to mine for gold in Ballarat. Ballarat was considered to be the richest goldfield during its peak years (1852-1853). The gold rush brought migrants from all over the world into Australia. (History)
