Short-term and long-term decisions

  • My concussion

On this day I got a concussion. On page 7 it says “Everything you do in the present affects your future” and this was a huge thing for me that week. I had two options and the first one was tell somebody about it and sit out of soccer for awhile or ignore it and keep playing. At first I ignored it and then after the game i realized that I should tell somebody how I was feeling. If I did not tell somebody I could have been impacted in the future and made things even worse
  • Day two

Also on page 7 it states, “it is best to think of all the possible results of our actions before we do them.” This is what I did. I thought of how it would affect me long term versus short term. I knew the best thing to do was to handle it now rather than later. So I ended up missing school and sitting out of soccer for two or three weeks
  • Short-term Impact

The short term effects of having my concussion was missing school, soccer, and social events. I had to rest a lot to get better quicker. If I did all these things I could play sooner and that is what I wanted.
  • Long-term impact

The long term impacts of not handling my concussion was possible brain damage in the future and if i continued to play soccer while having one and got hurt again I could be out even longer and the side affects could be even worse.
  • Why it was a good choice

Taking care of my injury right now was a good choice because the risks of ignoring it and waiting until later were not good. On page 7 it mentions the domino effect. It says, “This combination of steps is the result of a domino effect where one event produces similar and connected events to start as well.” If I ignored the signs my head could have gotten worse and I would be out even longer. I made a good choice because i thought about the short term and considered both options.
