Shiloh Battle

  • General Leonidas K Polk seized the town of Kentucky on the banks of the Mississippi.

    It had violated Kentucky's neutrality but General Polk thought it was neccessary because Union forces were planning to occupy Kentucky themselves.
  • General Johnston decided to attack Grant right away.

  • 40,000 confederate soldiers under the command of Albert Sidney Johnston came out of the woods and struck the union soldiers occupying their ground near Pittsburgh on the Tennessee River.

  • Union positions themselves to slow the confederates assault.

    Union wanted to position themselves because they wanted to stand up and stop the confederates from getting supply but that backfired and the Union was without supply and firearms.
