SEXIST ADDS THROUGH 1930'S TO 2018.

  • 1930'S

    1930'S
In the 1930's was a sad time due to the Great Depression, and with fewer jobs women were hopeless. In this picture a woman is being described as useless if she doesn't wear the correct deoderant, but what makes this image more depressing is the fact that men aren't focusing on her values and her real beauty. They shouldn't regard her smell even if she smells bad there's always a more appropriate way to address it, not through image.

SEXIST ADDS THROUGH 1930'S TO 2018.

    1940
What's happening with the women's right movement is that many women had lost their jobs when service men returned from World War II but 80% wanted to keep working. In this picture it is portraying the fact that the kitchen is our home, showing that we belong there and only there. I find this very disrespectful because we are worth so much more than that and deserve more.

The Daughters of Bilitis, the first lesbian organization in the US is founded.Although DOB originated as a social group, it later developed into a political organization to basic acceptance for lesbians in the US. Making us seem weaker than men because this is a joke to them because they're shocked we can even open a bottle this ad's main message to women is to remind them their place in their household which is not okay. We deserve equal respect.

    1960'S
In the 60's women were entering the paid workforce and this increased the dissatisfaction among women regarding huge gender disparities in pay and advancement and sexual harrassment at the work. In this image its showing that women belong in the kitchen, sating that it is their home and they should never leave.

The ERA is passed by Congress and sent to states for ratification. Court of Appeals rules that jobs should be equal for men and women. This message is saying that women are known for being lower class as we've always been under our husbands shoes because we are nothing, it's very sexist showing the world that women hold no value.

During this time, Paula Hawkins of Florida, a republican becomes the first woman to be elected to the U.S Senate without following her husband or father in the job. In this image, women are portrayed as slave meaning that whenever a cigarette is blown to our faces, we will follow men like dogs. This is very disrespectful because no man should ever feel as if they own us.

CBS Broadcasting agrees to pay $8 million to settle a sex discrimination lawsuit by the E.E.O.C. on behalf of 200 women. This image is basically degrading women by showing that we don't deserve an actual sponge, but instead we deserve a whip which represents pain and misery especially through a very depressing time known as slavery and racism. This is not okay in my opinion because like how could they make an image of this sort?

    2005
During this time,Hillary Clinton becomes the first lady to be elected to public office as a U.S Senator from N.Y, but Condoleezza Rice becomes the first black female Secretary of State. In this image,Kate is showing us the basic routine for women which is to wake up, make tea, and read more news letters which contain more sexist adds. It's very heat breaking to see that even as our generation is growing, women are still looked down upon and are still treated worthlessly.

The Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Restoration Act allows victims, usually women, of pay discrimination to file a complaint with the government against their employer within 180 days of their last paycheck. In this image is stating that the only thing that cooks better is a woman and a woman's best friend. They devalue women by implying that cooking is our most important role in society and that is so rude in my opinion. Women deserve more respect.

    2012
The Paycheck Fairness Act, meant to fight gender discrimination in the workplace, fails in the Senate on a party-line vote. Two years later, Republicans filibuster the bill (twice). This image is calling women fat, meaning that we are like a balloon, filling us up until eventually we pop. The action of the woman is also very inappropriate showing a very explicit act making women seem fat and our mouths used for one purpose.

    2013
Reauthorization of the violence against women act. The new bill extends coverage to women of Native American tribal lands who are attacked by the non-tribal residents, as well as lesbians and immigrants. This image is very sexist because it's showing other people that what she is wearing is considered the appropriate clothing in order to cook because back then women were defined as sluts, and lower leverage and in my opinion that is wrong. The whole image as a whole is wrong and disrespectful.
  • 2018

    2018
2018 wasn't an all bad year because now, gay marriage is allowed and women have earned some of the rights, not all. But what is wrong with this add is that the black women taking of her shirt and then turning into a white person wasn't okay because it shows a litle bit of racism. Black women all around the world must feel very offended.
