Seungchul Lee decided to apply for KATUSA, a Korean and Americn combined army, to learn some english. This is where he disovers a whole new world of different people, food, hobbies and culture- which finally persuades him to become a more international person by living in as many different countries as possible.

The Asian Financial Crisis was a period of economic meltdown in Asian countries starting in Thailand, after being forced to "float" their Baht curreny from US Dollars. Indonesia, Korea and Thailand were the countries most affected by the conflict, having lost value in their stock market. Investors looked away from these contries for America's businesses.

At December 3rd, 1997, the Korean Government officially asked the IMF for financial support. The crisis began when businesses failed to earn the profit and returns form trying to make conglomerates to compete in the global market. The $19.5 billion loan was paied off finally in 2001.

One of my Lee's goals in Thailand was to earn a lot of money. As a new worker in a foreign country, Seungchul had many fantasies about earning money, buying a house, a car ...etc. Even though the economic state didn't allow for much income, he still was able to get a promotion to a higher rank in the company hierarchy.

At this time of being, the return to Korea was thought to be a permanent move back to seoul. An apartment was bought and Seungchul's two children were sent to public schools. What he didn't know was that the achievement he'd made in Bangkok made for new trips to Jakarta, Manila and now Moscow.
