    Save the Elephants was founded in 1993 by Iain Douglas-Hamilton. A research & conservation organisation, Save the Elephants (STE) is a UK-registered charity headquartered in Nairobi with its principal research station in Samburu National Reserve in northern Kenya.

    seven elephants ‘camped’ in a city park. The Forest department began an operation to drive away the jumbos

    control on Thursday evening. The elephant herd had strayed into Nabakrishna Nagar in Sector 22 of “The herd usually stays in Sona Parvat reserve forest. However, the elephant strayed into human habitation on Wednesday evening,”

    The government has been urged to destroy the warehouse used to keep
    elephant tusks in Dar es Salaam which is said to be the largest in the
    world. Addressing the press in Dar es Salaam, the coordinator of Okoa Tembo
    Tanzania campaign, Mr Shubert Mwarabu, said that the move would help
    to finish the ongoing illegal trade of elephant tusks that promotes
    poaching of elephants in the country.

    Two arrested in India for ivory selling
    The Echo of India The Bagdogra police on Friday launched a search operation in the Bhujiayapani area of south Bagdogra and arrested two suspected poachers with an elephant tusk. The 17cm long ivory was recovered from Masuk Sen and Mithun Sarkar, residents of Bhujiyapani. Police sources informed the duo had plans to sell the tusk in the area and they are being interrogated to find out whether more people are involved in the illegal trade, including international poaching syndicates.

  • ARTIST’S WORK UP FOR AUCTION TO RAISE ELEPHANT FUNDS

    At first glance, Benjamin Shine’s artwork looks like a charcoal drawing — but closer inspection reveals the elephant is fashioned from a single piece of fabric. The British artist achieves the depth and tone by creasing, layering and folding tulle netting into life-like shapes using an iron. He donated this work, entitled Sacred Giant, to two elephant conservation charities, Space for Giants and Elephant Family, ahead of the Giants Club Summit in Kenya.
