    Complete the friend wanted activity as a 'getting to know you' activity.

    This activity gives you the chance to start identifying the important values of the class and what they mean when applied interpersonally.

    Follow the steps outlined to create a Collaborative Classroom Contract Take a picture of the classroom contract; print it off and send it home for parents to sign as well.

    Block 1:
    Before telling the students exactly what I expect our year together to look like, I ask them what they expect. Do a think-pair-share with the question: What do I expect from grade ___? At the end of the share portion, I share my expectations. I share the general (to have some fun, to work hard, to learn new things), the realist (that I will get sick so you will have a supply teacher), and then the classroom expectations (in line with the behaviour contract).

    Identify the procedures for moving from one room to another (for art or phys. ed.). Link them into the classroom contract.

    Block 3:
    Place students in groups of 3 to create short scenarios wherein a student disregards one of the values (assigned) of the classroom contract and must accept the consequence. This will check for understanding of how to embody the values and ascertain the existing expectations for consequences. Have the students present and discuss each consequence as a class (is this fair? is this extreme?). Explain your procedures and consequences for misbehaviour, linking them to the classroom contract.
