    The Great Society brought changes to the nation’s immigration laws. The Immigration Act of 1924 and the National Origins Act of 1924 established immigration quotas that discriminated against people outside Western Europe. With this act the quota was set at 150,000 people each year. It discriminated against south and eastern Europeans. It also barred Asians completely. The Act of 1965 allowed for many non-European immigrants to settle in the U.S. by ending quotas based on nationality.
