    The U.S. and the Soviet Union signed the Geneva accords which stated that the Soviet Union had to back out of Afghanistan and Pakistan within the year. This showed Romania that the Soviet Union was failing.

    The Romanian Revolution started on December 16th, 1989 in a city named Timisaora. The Warsaw Pact countries broke up and the communistic government the country had relied on went away. The protestants broke out in rampage and thus the revolution began.

    After the protests had began, Ceausescu's political team tried to get things back to normal. They attempted to have the workers of Timisoara to return to their jobs and to their work, but they failed.

    Finally Ceausescu returned to Romania only to find a very unorganized, disfunctional nation. He then made a speech on TV talking about how the protests were very bad, and got in the way of peace.

    Many of the protesters were mad about everything that Ceausescu had said about them and so they decided to do something about it. They broke into his office and destroyed everything, but Ceausescu got away in his helicopter which was on the roof.

    Ceausescu and his wife were captured and found guilty. Then only a few minutes after they were found guilty they were taken away and tied up. They were then killed by firing squad which left Romania a free nation.
