  • The end of the French and Indian War

    The  end of the French and Indian War
    The French and Indian War put Britain into debt causing them to tax ciitizens of the 13 colonies. The war begain in 1753, and ended in 1763. In the French and Indian war was a war fought for land, called the Ohio River Vally
  • The Proclamation

    The Proclamation
    King George the thrid said " colonitis could not move West of Appalachian Moutines '' The King did not want to have to keep protecting them from Indian attacks. The colonits were angry that the king would not protected them. Since the King didnt protected them most moved back, but some ignored it and moved west anyway.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The sugar act was a tax on sugar and molasses. The colonist said and protested " No Taxation without Representation ". The colonist thought it was unfair for Parliment (The British legislature -makes the laws) to tax them since they have no representative in Parliment . The colonists decided to boycott, taxed sugar. And since they had no sugar they decide to smuggle sugar from other places.

    This act, required special tax stamps for legal documents, newspapers, dice,cards, and etc. The colonist thought of it as unfair for parliment to tax them sice they have no say in parliment. "No Taxation without Representation!" The reponse to this is boycotts, sent petetitions (a formal, written request to the goverment) to the king, violence started, also they started to smuggle.

    This act was to force colonist to house British soldiers stationed in the colonies. The colonists viewed this act as a violation of there rights. They were also very outraged. They refused to house British soldiers, and violence started bettween the colonist and the British solodiers.

    Townshend Act
    The Townshend act was a tax on impacts like glass, paper and tea. This allowed officers to use a Wit of Assistance (documents that allowed British Customs Officers to search Colonial ship without resson) to search colonial ships for smuggled goods. Colonists thought of this as a violation to their rights. The colonists response to this act was merchants signed non-importation agreements, and they started to boycott.

    The british were blamed for the boston masacre, and John Adams defended Captain Preston and eight soldiers during the boston masacre.

    The Boston tea party was 12/16/1773. The Sons of Liberty dressed as Mohawk indians, snuck on to British East India Co. ships and dumped tea into the boston Harbor.

    Meeting of reps from 12 of 13 colonies in Philadelphia, the formed a meeting to discuss how to respond to the Intolerable Acts. They demanded repeal of Intolerable Acts, trained militia, and formed new boycotts.

    Paul revere says "the British are coming!" when he saw them arrive at the Boston Harbor. He starts his ride by going around saying it. And the minutemen soldiers at Lexington were the first shots of the Revolutionary War.
