    French and Indian War 1754 - 1763
    The war between the English and French colonies broke out because,the expansion of the Engish colonies into the French teritory, and the building of forts along the Ohio River Vally by the French inorder to control the river and stop British expansion. The war was won by the British which resulted in the colonies no longer facing threats from French, Native Americans, and the Spanish. The war also created a sence of nationalism for the colonies who the though they were able to defend them selfes
  • Proclamation of !763

    Proclamation of !763
    The proclamation was issued to avoid conflicts with Native Americans by having an imaginary line that the colonist could not settle west of. This angered the colonist since they expected to gain land after the French and Indian War. The colonist started to rebel by setteling west of the Appalachian Mountains, they rebeled against the order of Britian since they saw they could defend them self with out the need of Britian.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    The act was meant to tax foreign sugars and stop smuggleing, those who smuggled would be in prisioned. The tax would be collected to raise money for the British government and people. The American colonist were very angered by the taxs since they saw they had no say in it, the thought of independece grow among them as a result.

    Quartering Act
    This act forced colonist to provide food and shelter to British solodiers. The colonist didn't enjoy having to provide to solodiers out of their own food and money. This later lead to many people wanting the British out of the colonies, since they felt that they could protect them selves, they felt resentlful of the troop.

    Stamp Act Congress
    The stamp act was issued inorder to raise money for British troops by forcing colonist to buy stamps and put them on all legal and important papers. Colonist didn't like having to waist their own money as well as paying for troops. They didn't like that the decision for the act was taken without their consultation, the feeling for independence grow.
  • Boston Masacre

    Boston Masacre
    An event in which the colonies 'attacked' the British soldiers that were staying in the colonies. The soldiers shoot and killed five colonist. This event created great resentment towards the solodiers that were staying in the colonies, increased anti-British feelings by the colonist.
  • The Gaspee Affair

    The Gaspee Affair
    An event in which American colonist disguised them selves as Native Americans and buurnedd down a British ship that was used t o catch smugglers. This event showed the British the sence of rebellion that the colonist had towards them, it made their relationship very tense.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    The British taxs on tea even though still cheaper then smugged tea made the colonist angry since they felt like they had to have a say in what happened. The colonist disquised themselves as native Americans and dumped the tea into the harbor. This act of rebelion showed the British what the colonist were cabable.
  • First Continental Congress

    12 of the colonies met in Philadelphia to discuss how they were to protect their right and restore their previews relationship with the crown. They originaly had no intension of independence.
  • Intolerable Act

    Intolerable Act
    They were a series acts that were meant to punish the colonist for having dumped the tea into the harbor. The acts only angered the colonist more and lead to them wanting their independence eveen more then they had already.
  • Olive Branch Petition

    Olive Branch Petition
    The olive Branch Petition was designed to retore the ties to the crown and prevent war from breaking out. It had the however not been recieved by the king and the colonist were declared to be in a rebelion.

    The congress was called again in order to see how they would react to Britian declaring war on them. They congress was devied between those who though they needed independence and those who thought they needed to stay. They adopted the declaration of independence, and madde George Washington their military leader.

    A letter written to the British king and parliment stating the reasons why the colonist wanted their independence.
  • Thomas Paine's Common Sense

    Thomas Paine's Common Sense
    A pamphlet that expressed the ideas of many radicals, called for the need of independence. It expressed what government should be and who it should serve, increased the feelings of independence.
