    Fighting Lexington and Concord
    Paul Revere and others announced that 700 british troops were headed for concord. The "red coats" reached Lexington on April 19, 70 minuteman were reaching the entrance. The british commander ordered them to lay down and leave, the colonist began to move out without laying down their arms. someone shot at the british so the british shot back. the colonist lost in 15 minutes because they were unprepared.
  • Bunker Hill

    Bunker Hill
    British general Thomas Gage decided to strike at militiamen on the breed's hill. He sent 2,400 British soldiers up the hill. The colonists held their fire and began to mow down the redcoats before retreating. After the battle the colonists only lost 450 men while the British lost over 1,000. This battle was the deadliest one of the war.

    As a plan to stop the rebellion by isolating New England, the British quickly attempted to seize New York City. The British sailed into New York harbor in the summer of 1776 with a force of about 32,000 soldiers. They included thousands of mercenaries, or hired soldiers known as Hessians because many of them came for the German region of Hesse. The continental Army tried to defend New York in late August but retreated soon due to them being poorly equipped and not trained.
