    Battle of Lexington/ Concord
    The British came with many men and the colonists were only a militia. The shot heard 'round the world was fired and no one knew who started the battle. It was one of the starting sparks of the American Independence. Although the didn't win the battle of lexington they won the battle of concord by using guerilla warfare.
  • Battle of Fort Ticonderoga

    Battle of Fort Ticonderoga
    The fort was held by the Americans and they defended New York from England's attacks. There were many soldiers stationed here, (about 2,000), commanded by General Arthur St. Clair. There was also many militias one known as the Green Mountain Boys. It was a small battle with a big impact.

    Colonists had heard the the British wanted to take control of the hills around Boston. They secretly moved in and hid their troops to be ready when England got there. Although they didn't have enough force or resources to win they played their card good. They left the British with many injuries and casualties, that they saw it as a win.

    Common Sense was written by Thomas Paine. It was about how the Americas should be independent. He appealed to more of an emotional side and it work on many people. It became a bestseller and was one of the starting pushes of the Revolution. He was putting new ideas in the air.

    England had sent troops into Boston due to the boycotting and disapproval from the colonists. The colonists demanded that they had the same treatment as other British people back in England and were arguing about the taxes a lot. There's not really a battle here and the british packed up and left
  • Declaration of Independence

    Thomas Jefferson wrote the very first draft, but he took most of his words from John Locke. The Congress only made a few minor changes here and there throughout. It was presented to Congress on June 28, 1776. On July 4, 1776 Congress finally adopted the final version of the Declaration of Independence.

    The British attacked in the morning and had a different tactic than the colonists. The colonists were greatly outnumbered. They surrounded the Americans, and the colonists were kind of stuck and needed to retreat. The British also got new help from the Germans. They thought to overwhelm the Americans and scare these new militiamen. George Washington ordered the troops to retreat quietly to Pennsylvania.

    Washington Crosses the Delaware
    They were crossing delaware because George Washington and the Continental Army had been pushed and stuck in Pennsylvania. They had little hope and needed some type of victory to boost their confidence. There was more than one crossing as well.

    When Washington got to trenton, the Hessians were not ready at all. There weren't many deaths on either side, but the Continental Army still won.

    After the crossing the Delaware, George Washington lead his army to victory unexpectedly. The British were on their way to Trenton to meet up with another British troop. But they ran into the Americans and started a battle from there.

    There were many battles that made up the Battle of Saratoga. These battles and victories by the Americans boosted their morale and it became a turning point of the Revolutionary War. The British army even surrendered while under the control of General Burgoyne. Another thing that helped is france decided to support with military aid.

    Treaty of Amity and Commerce/ Treaty of Alliance
    France saw that the Americas were independent. They wanted to trade between each other, and this sparked a military alliance with Britain.
  • Winter at Valley Forge

    During the stay, Americans finally started to come together as a unit to work. It is known as the birthplace of the American Army. Although it was another turning point, the conditions that these soldiers had to endure was brutal. Disease were very prone and killed many soldiers.

    This battle was one of the largest surrenders in the American Revolution. It left the South with little to no protection/ military. The British were soon to swoop in.

    During this battle the Americans defeated Britain again. England kept trying to move forward more and more to give themselves so type of advance but they had to retreat. Wins like this gave the colonists more hope.

    During this battle, the Americans got beat pretty bad. It made the british take back temporary control of the Southern Colonies.
  • Battle of Cowpens

    This battle was another turning point in the Revolutionary war in the South. The American troops had won this battle which then forced British troop sto retreat, giving them even more hope that not only could they continue to win battles, but win the whole war. The British fell to many injuries and casualties again.
  • Battle of Kings Mountain

    This battle was a victory for the Americans. England was yet again attempting to take control of the South, but the battle was very tough. In the end, the Americans came out superior and won.
  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    It was the last great battle of the Revolutionary War. The British Army finally surrendered, and the government was considering a treaty. The British got surrounded by the many troops from the American and French side. The finally raised the white flag after being bombarded and attacked for 11 days.
  • Treaty of Paris

    Treaty of Paris
    It was the official peace treaty between America and Britain, the end of the American Revolutionary War. This treaty was made/negotiated in Paris. It took a long time for the treaty to be put into place after the British surrendered. The 13 colonies were finally to be recognized as independent.
