The Battle of Lexington/ Concord was what kicked off the war. This all began when the British Army came into the colonies to take away weapons and arrest leaders. Paul Revere had warned the colonists about this which helped rebel leaders hide in time so they wouldn't be found by the British Soldiers. This battle is significant because not only was this the first battle, but this was the first battle won by the colonists as well. This made the British realize what the colonists were capable of.

This was a more difficult battle for the British than they thought it would be. After taking them three tries to get to the hill, they finally claimed their victory. Common Sense was a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in 1776. This document proposed independence from Britain for the thirteen colonies at the time. Paine used moral and political arguments to encourage the people in the colonies to take up arms against Great Britain. He argues that taxation without representation is not fair as well as creating a democratic republic for the people.

The Declaration of Independence is the official written document which declared the thirteen colonies' freedom from Great Britain. The Committee of 5, made up by Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, Roger Sherman, and Thomas Jefferson, decided that they wanted to write this statement. This document was officially passed by congress on July 4th, 1776 although Patrick Henry didn't sign due to the fact that there was not a Bill of Rights.

The British Army was successful in moving against the American Continental Army which was being led by George Washington. The British wanted to take control over New York and isolate the New England colony from all of the others. The Hessian troops were German soldiers hired by the British to fight for them. This was a surprise attack so the people who were aware, were forced to keep quiet. This was a key moment of the American Revolution. This was making others aware that colonists were capable of pulling off more than they had imagined.

Valley Forge was the came made by the Patriots in the winter of 1777. The camp was stationed close to Philadelphia which is why the Continental Army stayed here. This was used as an army base and was located in a good area. This was the area where different fighting forces unified which makes this a significant detail of the American Revolution. Valley Forge is often known as the American Army's Birthplace.

The Treaty of Amity and Commerce officially recognized the United States as an independent nation. This soon helped encourage trade between France and America. The Treaty of Alliance provided a military alliance against Great Britain. This was an alliance between France and The United States which promised military support in case anything breaks out between French and British forces. France and America both agreed to a separate peace with Great Britain.

The Battle of Charleston was the worst defeat for the American colonists. This was during the time that the British were trying to be more strategic and put their main focus more on the southern colonies. The battles won by the British in the south increased as that was their main at the time.

The Cannonball House was used as a medical center to keep all of the injured people during the battle. During this time, he went by the name of Marquis de Lafayette. This battle ended with the British commander considering wether he should surrender. Charles Cornwallis was the British commander who surrendered the battle.

The Treaty of Paris is what ends the war for good. It was signed in Paris, France and states that the British have no choice but to recognize the colonies as independent states. There will also no longer be a Western Boundary. After years of negotiating the document, it was then finalized.
