  • French and Indian War

    The French and Indian war happened in 1754 when France and England both wanted the Ohio River Valley they fought many battles but the Britain ended up winning. It was the first time Britain and the colonies fought together the colonies felt like they were royal English subjects and they should get respect. Britain ended up in debt and started taxing the colonies which angered them.

  • Sugar Act

    In 1764 the sugar act taxed sugar and molasses which were very used products. They also cracked down on smugglers. This only let them trade with Britain which made the colonies very upset because they had to pay more money for their goods. Britain did this because they were still in debt from the French and Indian war. The colonist still smuggled and started boycotting sugar and other British goods.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The stamp act is one of the acts that followed the French and Indian war it was placed in 1765. This act made the colonist have to have a stamp showing that they paid to get what they paid the tax included deeds, almanacs, newspaper, advertisements, playing cards. The colonist reacted very strongly to this in a negative way; this also started the revolutionary war because they are getting taxation without representation.   • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    In 1770 a group of colonists went and harassed the British soldiers by throwing rocks and snow at them, the soldiers got so nervous they shot and killed a man. This helped spark the revolution because people interoperated this in the wrong way so it would look like the soldiers shot on purpose next came many colonists agreeing on independence. The colonist harassed them because they wanted to get the rights they deserved and their freedom.
  • Tea Act

    The Tea Act was a way to get the East India Company more money because of the boycotting the colonies were doing to tea. This way the East India Company got more money and Britain was still in debt. This angered the colonist a lot because and they threatened to not let the ships unload the tea. Britain did this because the East India Company was a big economic role in Britain. This angered the colonist so much that they did the Boston Tea Party.
  • Committees of Correspondence

    The committees of correspondence informed the colonist about what was happening during the war. They did this because they thought the colonist had the right to learn about what was happening. The colonist liked the idea that they were involved and that way they sent cloths food and medicine when the soldiers needed it.

    December 16 1773 a group of colonist disguised themselves as Native Americans and went on a tea ship to throw 90,000 pounds of tea into the ocean. The colonist cheered them on but parliament was very mad and made the intolerable acts which the colonist greatly disliked. They did this because the tea act which was taxing tea too much.

    Intolerable Acts
    In the spring of 1774 the Intolerable Acts were passed they included the first act was the Boston port which closed ports the second was justice act which allowed governors to decide to give trail or not. The third is government which increased governments’ power, and the fourth is quartering act which allowed British to make colonies give housing and food to soldiers. Parliament did this as a punishment to the colonies for the Boston Tea Party. The Colonist rebelled and boycotted.

    In September 5 1774 all the colonies sent delegates except for Georgia, participated in the continental congress. They discussed the matters about Britain and said they would meet again in May 1775 if needed. They started acting like a government printing money and starting an army. The British were very mad at this and if one of the delegates were caught they could be hanged.     July 5 1775 the olive branch petition said that the colonies were still loyal to the king asked the king to stop fighting said all disputes could be resolved peacefully. The next day congress said that they would rather die freeman than live as slaves. They did this because they wanted to show that they were fair and that they at least tried. Britain didn’t even respond they were ready to fight and were tiered of the colonist always rebelling.
  • Battle at Bunker Hill

    Battle at Bunker Hill
    June 17 1775 the Battle at Bunker Hill took place in Boston; Washington was trying to get rid of the British ships blocking the Boston ports. The Americans ran low on ammunition and ended up retreating so the British won that but on a hard price because the British lost about a thousand soldiers. The colonist started joining the military now because they see that this was getting serious and started joining the Patriots. Washington then tried again to drive the British out of Boston.   • Battle at Lexington and Concord

    The battle at Lexington and Concord happened in 1775. The British were marching up to Lexington when the minute men attacked them and a shot rang out so the British started shooting and killed 8 people and wounded several. This is considered the start of the revolutionary war. The British did this because they didn’t know were the shot had come from so they started shooting openly.
  • Valley Forge

    Valley Forge was a camp were the soldiers stayed during the winter; it was a rough winter were many soldiers died. Colonist reacted by helping the soldiers and sending cloths, food and medicine. After this Washington’s army was very small because so many soldiers died or went home. This happened because the camp was full of dieses and there was very little food.
  • Battle at Saratoga

    Battle at Saratoga
    In 1777, General Burgoyne plan was to get three British forces together and isolate NY, his plan failed when he encountered Gates army and was trapped for three. Running low on supplies he surrendered. Burgoyne did this because New York was very important to the colonies and he thought if he could isolate it would weaken the colonies. The colonist stated signing up for the militia to help gates army. This was the turning point of the revolutionary war because Europe decided to form an alliance
  • Paris Peace Treaty 1783

    In 1783 Parliament decides to make peace with the colonies they meet in Paris. U.S. borders are now, Atlantic Ocean and the Mississippi river: from the Canadian border to Florida. Florida is returned to Spain. This marks the end of the revolutionary war. Washington dismisses the troops a very emotional night for everyone. The colonies are in big debt after the war.
