Refugees in Naoussa/Greece

  • The holocaust of our town

    The inhabitants of Naoussa rebelled against the Sultan of the Ottoman Empire.
    They were defeated, a massacre followed, and the citizens were forced to leave in order to save their lives. They became refugees.
  • Genocide of the Greeks in Asia Minor and Pontus (The area around the Black Sea)

    After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the Greeks of Asia Minor and Pontus were forced to flee their homes. There was an influx of over one million refugees who settled in almost every geographical region of Greece.

    After the end of the civil war, in Greece, that followed World War II, the defeated fled to the socialist countries as political refugees.
  • Turkish invasion in Cyprus

    After the Turkish invasion of Cyprus, our town hosted Cypriot refugees.

    In various parts of the world there are conflicts, hunger or no respect for human rights. As a result, people are looking for a better life or seek refuge in the western world.
    Since October our town has been hosting refugees from Syria and Afghanistan.
