Almost 45.000 people live in Kozani. So in propotion to its population Kozani can easily integrate 5.000 refugees. -
Accommodation
Accommodation is a major problem for the refugges when they arrive to a new country. I personally believe that Kozani can offer them many vacant and abandoned houses or indoor stadiums to live for a sort time. NGOs and other organizations can undertake to pay their rent or just a part of it. Of course residents can help optionally. -
Adult refugees
Kozani could create employment opportunities for the adult refugees. Men could offer their manpower in farms. They could be very useful in picking the saffron in the fall season. Women could work in local shops as waitresses, receptionists or cleaners -
Food, clothing etc.
Events and bazars could be organized in the town in order to collect food and clothes for the refugees. Moreover residents could donate them old toys, books and magazines in order for children to spend their time happily and forget about their problems. -
Action of Schools
Schools could help refugees' childrern by providing them with extra Greek and English lessons in order to help them learn the language faster. Also students could help them with their homework. What is more, schools could organize local tours so that the refugees can learn the town. Last but not least parties and events could be organized to give the chance to the refugees to know new people and make new friends. -
Benefits
Refugees will help the local economy as they will spend money in local shops. Also younsters will have the chance to make new friends and to realize that nothing is a given and that they should be grateful for the goods they already have because there are thousands of people that have nothing to eat.
